Drafter – Residential Remodeling

J&J Contractors I LLC is a NARI award-winning, family-owned and operated interior and exterior home remodeling company that specializes in transforming houses into dream homes.

We’re looking for a skilled Drafter to join our team to help create scopes of work, contract documents, designs, and technical plans for residential projects. In this role, you’ll work closely with our sales team and clients to gather specifications, calculate material and equipment needs, and develop detailed construction documents.

If you have hands-on experience with CAD software — specifically Chief Architect — and a solid understanding of building processes, we’d love to talk to you. Compensation is commensurate with experience.

Primary Responsibilities

• Collaborate with clients and sales staff to gather design and structural requirements.
• Calculate dimensions, weight limits, and material requirements.
• Outline production methods step-by-step, including necessary equipment and software.
• Develop detailed designs and construction drawings using Chief Architect.
• Create diagrams, layouts, and workflow maps.
• Prepare and review rough sketches and finalize designs with the team.
• Identify and resolve potential design or operational issues to improve functionality.
• Ensure final designs meet regulations, codes, and quality standards.
• Draft contract documents and detailed scopes of work.
• Generate material lists and place orders as needed.
• Meet with clients to finalize contract documents and prep projects for production.
• Create manuals detailing operation, features, and maintenance of completed products.
• Other duties as assigned.

Availability

• On-site position.
• Hours: Monday–Friday, full-time 8–5. Some evening or weekend hours may be required with notice.
• Must be available to meet project deadlines and coordinate with clients, sales, and project managers as needed.

Education & Experience

• Proven experience as a Drafter, preferably in residential remodeling or new construction.
• Proficiency in Chief Architect (required).
• Strong customer service and listening skills.
• Solid understanding of construction methods, materials, and terminology.
• Good math and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple projects.
• Contract writing experience a plus.
• BS in Engineering, Architecture, or a technical college degree preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $60,000.00 – $70,000.00 per year
